Pink Floyd Announces September Release For Delayed 'Animals' Reissue

Pink Floyd is moving forward with the reissue of its classic 1977 album, Animals, after years of bickering between David Gilmour and Roger Waters set back the release.

Animals 2018 Remix is due on CD, LP, Blu-ray and SACD formats on September 16. A deluxe, limited-edition set featuring behind-the-scenes photos is due October 7.

The new mix for the album was done in 2018 by James Guthrie, who began working with Pink Floyd a year after Animals was originally released.

The album artwork, too, has been reimagined by Aubrey 'Po' Powell who re-photographed the LP's iconic cover image "to reflect a changing world," but used modern digital coloring techniques to retain "Pink Floyd's rather bleak message of moral decay using Orwellian themes of animals, the pig Algie, faithful to the message of the album."

Each format comes with a 28-page booklet omitting Waters' much-contested liner notes, which the bassist agreed to set aside last summer.

Beyond Gilmour and Waters arguing about the set, drummer Nick Mason noted in one interview that there were some questions early on as to whether they could find enough archival material to complete the special reissue.
