Foo Fighters Released "Wasting Light" Six Years Ago Today

April 12th, 2011, Foo Fighters released their seventh studio album -- "Wasting Light"

Besides the bands debut album created solely by Dave Grohl, this was the next biggest album for the Foo Fighters. It wasn't the Grammys or the album sales that made this album so special, it was the statement that all of these songs together made. And it went something like this...WE ARE THE FU%&ING FOO FIGHTERS AND WE AREN'T GOING FU%&ING ANYWHERE!

The Foo Fighters released "Echoes Silence Patience & Grace" in '07, and followed that up with a two year tour. Then Dave hopped on a project with Ginger Elvis (Haha, Queens of the Stone Age frontman, Josh Homme) and Led Zep's John Paul Jones --Them Crooked Vultures. They wrote one hell of Rock album, played it LIVE all over the world, and shut it down. So you would think Dave would take this time to DO NOTHING.

No, Dave wanted to go back to being just a dude in a band. So that's what he did. The Foo Fighters recorded "Wasting Light" in Dave's garage with no computers. They just kept the tape rolling, and whatever was on that reel is what was going on the record.

This was also the record that brought former Foo Fighter guitarist, Pat Smear back onboard. He quit the Foo back in '97, and he was now ready to continue ROCKIN'! The combination of Pat's guitar sound, and energy, Dave's vision, and the reuniting of producer, Butch Vig is what made this album larger than life. This was the first time Dave worked with Butch since recording"Nevermind" with Nirvana, remember that one...haha. Also making an appearance on the record is Nirvana bassist, Krist Novoselic. He's slappin' bass on "I Should Have Known."

It wasn't time for Dave to take a break, it was time to create, and for the Foo Fighters to give the world "Wasting Light". And we ate it up. It debuted at number one on the Billboard, it was the highest charting album in Foo history, and won five out of six Grammy nominations.

I highly recommend the Foo documentery "Back And Forth" that takes you through the process of "Wasting Light"

Now let's Waste Some Light! -Ryan
